They Don't Understand
People don’t understand
When someone falls
It’s more than a body hitting the floor
It’s something way more
It’s the resonating sound of a silent seat on the bus
The empty echo of silent jokes
The long forgotten order of a regular’s cup of coffee
The missing smile in an office chair
The silent humming of a passerby
The quiet murmur of a long-loved lover
People don’t understand
When someone falls
It’s more than a death
More than a loss of breath
It’s something way more.
