They Gave Me What You Didn't

She had borne me with good intention.
She thought of me as her greatest invention
She gave me all the luxuries of life.
Everything went well until the strife.

We had a disagreement in the way she disciplined
and then all her affections did rescind.
I thought her love limitless and unconditional
but this way of expressing love was traditional.

Her parents beat her, so she beat me.
I wonder why it was she couldn't see.
This abuse was not love because when push came to shove,
I hated her as I thought she hated me.

I betrayed her but she did it first
She had me dying of a great thirst
I needed to be submersed in
motherly love once again,
so my foster family became my new friends.
