They Say

I stand waiting

Waiting for something to feel

Fake smile, forced laughing

If only I could get away

The sorry, the mourning

Gone but never forgotten, they say

You’d think after an hour I’d be used to the crying

But all I see are strangers who claim to be sorry

They act as though they didn’t know he was dying

Like an actor winning an Oscar

I stood blindly

He was a great man, they say

“He was always smiling”

Maybe seven years before

But the truth is they’re not understanding

He had died long before

Disease slowing eating away

He was a happy man, they say

Anger, frustration rose without a warning

With hugs and tears I couldn’t just take

I wanted to stop and start shouting

Them not knowing who he really was

Made them unworthy of my love

He was my grandpa, I say
