They Say Love Is A Drug

They say love is a drug

I wanted to feel love pumping through my blood

So I took the rubber band

Wrapped it around my arm tight until body went numb

And I held the needle there and I wanted for you to push down so I could feel some

But you never did

I still don’t understand how I became addicted to something you never give

I guess I’ve slipped

From your hands to your feet

Crawling to kiss them as you back away from me

They say I should howl up at the moon but why admire one when I could see two, just as bright, every time I look at you

I crave love and hunger more than lust

You are everything that I need, and for you, I’ll do everything that I must

Even with the heartache of knowing that my eyes may be big and my ears even bigger

But from you I could not see nor hear a piece of gratitude, not even a sliver

And yet still!

My heart rumbles for a touch for a taste

I know your granddaughter is coming and for you I made sure that she’s safe

What was her name?

Ah yes, little red

Oh! Red

How beautifully poetic it is to have pain and love revel in the same devilish shade

I don’t think you could truly understand the depths that this color brings

Unless it swallows you whole

Unless it consumes your body like this unrequited love has consumed my soul
