They Were Spiders on Sundown
The Girl gabs like a faceless Pain.
Dead,
noisy thumps loudly grab at grim, misty Spirits.
They talk.
They talk!
They were spiders on sundown.
The girl grabs for something good,
Catching the unknown,
Like she herself had once been caught before,
Taunting them to believe it's true,
Come here.
Come here!
I swear it's safe,
But...
They were spiders on sundown.
The girl opens the doors,
Believing sanctuary behind it,
Instead seeing slings across the floor front and center from the night before,
The baby's of a web they themselves did not conceive,
But we're collected in,
Set in the trap,
From the spiders on sundown.
The girl she runs to the web outside,
Where children play,
Where children hide,
From their own they keep their secrets,
Afraid of home where dreams become weakness,
Hauled in like flys,
By the fountain of youth,
And tied in,
By spiders on Sundown.
Girls drenched in liquor,
Pasted images for the world,
She used to run the world,
But now she can't get off the floor,
But mom,
But dad,
These are my younger years,
She was a spider on Sundown.
Look over there,
Remember Lilliana?
She was off to Philly for her first college sign up,
But struck like a rock,
By the girl with the smile,
Now she goes to court for the boy who seemed mild,
And do you know why,
She's a broken child?
It's the drink of a poison,
An idol to all,
The thing that brings out all the creeps who can crawl,
It's what she became and you before her,
A spider on Sundown,
Where I see most of them crawl.
