That They Will Forever Know

Location

She drinks a bottle, then another, and another

She feels sick and wants to stop

But she knows that she can’t

She needs to feel happy

He has no money left, but keeps borrowing, and gambling

He knows he needs to stop

But he knows that he can’t

He needs to redeem himself

She plays with the food on her plate

She is so hungry and wants to eat

But she knows that she can’t

She needs to fit into that size zero dress

He runs but doesn’t know where he’s going

He just wants to go home

But he knows that he can’t

He needs to feel free

She holds up her hair and coughs

She wants to take her finger out of her mouth

But she knows that she can’t

She needs to be skinnier

He swallows a pill, another, and another

He wants to stop

But he knows that he can’t,

He needs to feel good

Her skin rips as the blood gushes out

She wants to make herself stop

But she knows that she can’t

She needs to feel in control

There is no explanation,

But they always know that they can’t

My wish to the world is that they knew,

And that they will forever know,

With perseverance, and with help,

That they can.
