They're All I Need

More than likely,

I feel like I know my generation’s answer,

Not being able to live without their phone,

Not able to stand being disconnected,

Not able to be silent

I would be guilty of this too,

But when I look deeper into myself,

I notice what I really need most,

Who pulls me through life when I can’t pull myself,

I need my family

Throughout my life with my parents,

I feel that I’ve taken them for granted,

Forgetting what they’ve done for me,

What they’ve sacrificed to keep me happy,

And without them, I fear I wouldn’t be able to function

Even if we had nothing,

Even if the entire world was against us,

Being with my family would put me at ease,

Knowing I wasn’t in life alone

We have our differences,

And they show clearly,

But when I need them,

They’re there, no matter what happened,

Ready to talk or help or just be there

Being a teenager,

I want to do whatever I want,

But I still feel a pull towards my family,

And even when I turn them away,

They’ll be there when I need them,

Never asking questions, never criticizing,

Just loving

I love my family,

And thankfully, they love me too,

Because without them,

I wouldn’t know how to act,

How to be a gentleman,

How to love someone,

Or even how to be someone.
