The Thief

Are you blind? How else could you miss the death in my eyes The void where my soul should be? You force yourself upon me Ragged, heavy breathing Sweat dripping down your broad nose Splashing on to my cheek and mixing with My silent tears. Are you deaf? The metal springs scream in protest as you crush me to this once familiar surface They are the voice I can’t seem to find I run through the corridors of my whole self Searching in vain for a simple hum, a whisper. My arms are no longer connected to me They lie limply on either side of my body Which has betrayed me. I can’t believe you don’t hear the screams bouncing around in my skull Clawing desperately for a way out. How dare you? You leave with a flourish of your zipper Broken, numb, unable to think I blindly fumble for my shirt Crumpled in the corner My pants, tossed under the bed I stumble Down the stairs Out the door Into an alien planet. I feel Nothing. You have robbed me. Safety, security, self-respect, trust— Add them to my shopping list. Call the Walmart pharmacy in advance, Give them fair warning Call Heaven next Cancel my reservation Tell my parents not to wait up I’ll be home late.
