The thief

He stole through the night

A dark shadow in the darker night

What does he steal? You may ask

He steals something that isn’t tangible

You cannot touch it

You cannot see it

It is something you feel

Something very dear

It gives you feelings

When it’s broken you feel it

It burns and makes you cry

It is a beast devouring everything

Yet it cannot harm you physically

Mine has been broken

Spit on and thrown aside

It has been stolen by many

And returned in sad condition

But here I am

Allowing it to be stolen yet again

By the thief in the night

Yet he appears so right

The heart is what I speak of

Everyone knows it’s there

It’s been broken more than I’d like

But it seems to still be working

The dark shadow is love

The thief in the night

It appears like a blessing

Then crushes your delicate heart

This is why I am scared

Not because of physical harm

Though I’ve had my share of that

Love gets to the part of me that’s not strong
