The thing of the forest

The thing of the forest

ancient,

tired.

it sat under the rubber tree

water biting its ankles

ants kissing its toes

the other things

stood

        away

                 from

                         it

alone

ancient,

wise,

alone.

zig zag

went the python

maw primed

head aligned

it spoke one word

the serpent became a rope

tongue tied

tired of the rain

it closed its eyes

born of shaded skies

the thing of the forest was no more
