Things Are Different Now

This was during a time when my brother and I would get into physical fights but I should have taken more responsibility for my actions as well and not just blame him

You said you would protect me,

You said you’d always be there,

But instead I find myself

Surrounded by dangerous waters

That threaten to overcome me;

I am not your punching bag,

I am not your stress reliever,

I know I should not

Have said those things,

But I am not a flimsy

Little paper

That you can take hold and

Rip apart so easily;

I will fight back,

You know I will,

And there’s nothing you can do;

I may be strong and laugh it off,

But way down deep,

In the depths of my heart,

I struggle with my hurt and guilt,

Of things I never tried to stop;

And as you stomped away

In anger,

I stared after you in anguish,

Wishing that somehow things

Would turn around,

And that we could stop the hurt.
