Things Shouldn't be So Hard

Things shouldn’t be so hard. Words should be allowed to spill more than blood. Excitement should overcome a sinking feeling of stolen hope left in a ransacked shack barefoot, carefully stepping over shattered light bulbs. Anxiety should not dominate to the point where fingernails are battered and chewed and hairlines recede like a withdrawing tide. Things shouldn’t be so hard. We shouldn’t need masks or fires to bring us internal safety and warmth. Laughter should revitalize even the deepest of sins.
