Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Shadow

Surrounded in darkness Cape to cover the face The shadow ignored by ignorance Scream, scream, scream Run, run, run Going nowhere from the shadow Cannot escape yourself Suppressed truth Possibilities endless Undiscovered Shrouded in fears Eyes of nightmares Claws of suffering Intentions of torture The shadow smiles Never leaving Ever staying Eternal companion is the shadow Beautifully handsome Devilishly evil Darkest desire The mysterious shadow Siblings stride on the sidewalk In the sunlight Floating whispers, anecdotes Loneliness seeping onto the shadow In the twilight Bad, good Forgiving, vengeful Deception, honesty Seen and unseen The shadow is all Permanent Confined Soulless The shadow holds an empty jar The better one The undefeatable one The almighty one The perfect shadow Crash, boom, strike The epitome of anxiety The shadow turns glossy From the cold sweat reflection Spring? Winter? Told by the most powerful shadow Who is feared by its partner Breathing softly No expression The black coat of the shadow Flowing in the sunlight
