This is not a poem about unrequited love

No.
it is about something far worse.
She told me you liked me.
Said it over the phone while I was in the back of the car
"He wants to date you"
Oh, that beautifully fleeting moment my heart flew
She said she would call with an update
and did she ever.
She said it was good
God I believed her.
it was good.
until she kept talking.
"Don't take this personally, but he thinks
God is telling him no"
I can not cry in the back of this car.
That was the only thought in my head.
I wish I could be angry.
God, I wish I could rage.
but I can't
not when I respect the hell out of you for it.
If God is telling you no,
then listen.
But it doesn't hurt less.
it feels as if my heart is tired.
The poor battered thing that beats in my chest.
Maybe.
How I hate the word.
But maybe.
Just maybe.
One day He will tell you yes.
So, no.
