those 3 words

#BECAUSEILOVEYOU

Those 3 words.

They get bent,

It's not about the money you spent.

It's not about how sorry you are,

Or the gifts you bring,

or your killer cool car.

I know you feel bad.

I know you get mad.

I know you're still sad.

But I know I've been had.

Don't dangle those words to get your own way.

This isn't a game, and I don't want to play.

Before you speak,

put yourself in my shoes,

I'm not a prize

or an object you choose.

I'm a person like you.

I deserve your respect,

And I hope you can see this,

But still I suspect,

That you think that you own me and somehow control me,

You push and you pull me, you pretend you don't know me.

But that's not right. It's more than emotion.

It's patience.  It's kindness. Not all that commotion.

It's partnership.

It's long haul.

It's building this together.

It's working through.

It's staying strong.

It's sticking through whatever.

Those 3 words count for quite alot.

But not when they're misused.

I will not sacrifice myself.

I will not be abused.
