Those Eyes
I hate those eyes…
Those eyes that cripple me.
Eyes that cause my strength to leave.
My walls fall from highest to low.
Insecurity and doubt flow.
Emotions rise, as optimism decreases in size.
Then I recede in my shell, my self-made hell.
I hate those eyes…
Those eyes that make me question my integrity.
Eyes that take my dignity.
When those eyes look at me I become so meek.
In those eyes’ point of view meek equals weak.
My weakness causes a dam to break.
No longer held back tears fall from my face.
Voices raise and shouts get louder.
The more I try to stop the more the tears continue.
My head bows in shame while tears fall untamed.
All the while, I feel those eyes..
Those judging eyes.
I rush to prove them untrue
But in my case I’m always guilty, never proven innocent
I see those eyes wherever I go and live in fear of their stripping gaze
A gaze that makes my soul bare
Leaving me only sadness to wear
I really hate those eyes
And that “I know what’s best for you” stare
It restricts me of choice without any care
I hate those eyes!
It’s those eyes that force me to see blindly!
It’s those eyes that force me to think unclearly!
But then again was it not I that did not fight as I lost my sight?
Was it not I that let those unclear thoughts define what is wrong or right?
I hate those eyes and how I instantly crumble under their cutting look
Why is it so hard to break it and regain the power it took?
I hate how those eyes change so suddenly sometimes
One minute they’re filled with pride
The next they look at me as a delinquent who has committed the worst of crimes
To me those eyes are the eyes of a controlling puppet master
They see me as a defective puppet, a disaster
Those eyes never show understanding
Their gaze always remains expectant and demanding
If eyes are the windows to the soul
Then those eyes are windows to the soul-less
I really hate those eyes but what I hate the most
Is how even though I hate those eyes
I always keep myself in their line of vision.
