Those Red Flowers

(poems go here) After a festive meal of meat and wine I went to sleep in my ever-comfortable bed. In only a matter of seconds I was fast asleep and dreamt Of a world. That was, repulsive and elegant Lovable Loathsome. With drops of rain that came down like jagged needles And red flowers that gave this world a feeling that everything was going to be okay. While people ran, following the soldiers’ orders in the street like wild hogs. There was a young girl wearing a bright red dress-who was following her mother. And on her skinny, pure, angelic hand: was a bracelet That she received last year on her 12th birthday. The nasty, evil, brown eyed, black haired soldier Demanded the bracelet from her. She instinctively refused. As the malicious, malevolent man dressed in his mouse grey uniform Took out his polished, gleaming black messenger of the angel of death, Her mother began to cry out to god for mercy while holding on to the soldier’s arm. The red flowers seemed as if they enjoyed watching innocent children being slaughtered as the soldier- the heartless, cold-blooded soldier aimed his gun at the helpless girl. His finger touched the black trigger. The girl looked confused. She asked her mother why she was crying. Then, the soldier squeezed the trigger. The bullet, this deadly tool, only used by cowards, hit its guiltless target. The powerless girl flew backwards, with her back smashing into the pavement like a hero who stared at death and did not know what hit her. The mother let out a bitter and harsh scream as the arrogant soldier indifferently walked away. And those red flowers. Then I awoke and imagined all of the people-parent and child alike who suffered the same fate as this girl. Some overlook all of the tragedies that have befallen these poor people. But we must never forget.
