Those Three Little Words

Dear Daddy,

"I love you"

You say those three little words quite often

What do they mean to you?

Beacuse to me their meaning is a little broken

When you and Mommy got divorced I hardly saw you

You would say, "Sorry I didn't call, there's no service on the train!"

And when you finally called back,

All you would do was complain

You would tell me that you miss me

You would promise me saying "I'll come this time"

My flute recital, my school plays

Where were you Daddy? What's the excuse this time?

"I love you" you remind me

But I don't believe you

As for your excuses, they seem

Pathetic at this point, sorry but it's true

I hope you know that I'm done for real now

For 16 years I've hid from the truth

I'm tired, Daddy, of being let down.

I'm tired of those three words, "I love you"
