Those who have pride

For years I listened to others spew hate.

It wore my heart heavy.

Even my own parents, fumed with negativity.

I didn't dare open my mouth, and speak up.

For I was afraid, everyone would turn against me.

Hell!!!  Society already had.

Because I grew up in a world

Where loving the same sex was wrong.

My own grandmother would wring my neck.

Someone, somewhere coined the phrase

"Trapped in the closet"

Most believe that we put ourselves there.

Little did they know, that harsh words drove us to hide.

Harsh words drove me to cry.

But I always did it in solitude.

I always kept it to myself.

I always hid my sexuality.

That is until now!

Now something inside my head and heart clicked on,

And I realized that I shouldn't be hiding who I am.

So I reached for the handle,

And turned it, kicked open the door!

Jumped out and screamed "Man it feels amazing to be out of the closet!!!"
