Thoughts

Dear Heart,

It would seem as if I am stuck,

Somewhere in the middle of breathing

and drowning.

My eyes can see,

but when my words speak,

noise seems to be absent.

My mind is clear,

but my lungs are filling.

How strange this feels,

to be alive,

but to feel death so closely.

People see me sinking,

yet they are worried about the color of my swimsuit.

How wrong of them.

This feeling,

like standing behind a one-way mirror,

I can see others,

but they cannot see me,

And if they could,

what would they see?

Would they see the girl I have always wished to be?

Or a lost child waiting to be free from her mind?

I can see their actions,

and I am disgusted by what my eyes see.

How displeasing humans can be.

I put lead and ink to paper,

and my mind spills like a dam holding back

a powerful river crumbling to the ground.

"How beautiful," some may say.

"How scary," others may think.

of the thoughts that flow through my brain.

Sincerely yours,

Kyleigh Lynn Knighton
