Thoughts And Prayers

As shards of death now ricochet

through chalk-dust and despair

and adolescents cower in

heartbeat cupboards under stairs;

as blood encrusted peepholes

fear that darkness does not care,

the spineless politicians offer

futile thoughts and prayers.

As twisted, painted faces

squirm on stage to guard their lair

by demonizing corpses

and survivors wheeling chairs,

with mental illness weaponized

and teachers told beware,

the spineless politicians offer

futile thoughts and prayers.

As splattered fabric frays and

corporate partners dich their share

whilst anguished flowers of tribute

build unhesitating layers,

society is atomized

by graves of liquid air

and spineless policians offer

futile thoughts and prayers.

As mobilized conviction

draws new strength from everywhere,

past imbecilic musings

of deluded billionaires;

as blood-shot lacerations

stitch a journey of repair,

the spineless politicians will

need all their futile prayers.
