Thoughts Covered the Walls

What if

You wanted

Me

The way

I want

You.

I could fill

My lungs up

With your

Lingering scent

And could taste

You

As I wish to do.

I would no

Longer inhale

The blackening tar

Or drink poison

That chases away

My nightmares

With a slurring

Women with a

Bottle clutched

In her hand.

If you wanted

Me

As I want

You

I might know

Some sort

Of peace

And you might

Know what

It is to be

Genuinely

Loved.

I might know

Some sort

Of peace

As the flames

Of my desire

Are put to bed

Like a restless

Infant;

A sizzling fire

Put out

By the consolation

Of the return

Of rain
