thoughts & hopes--scholarship

Dear Caitlin,

First off, I hope you’re doing fine;

I see you every day and still I don’t know

how you are--for real.

if you’re eating--you don’t think it’s a big deal.

whether you can sleep now--who knows if you learned how to heal?

But I know these hopes are only mine,

Living in this perpetual low.

Do you still think about him too?

The irony in his name: Raymond, Ray.

like a bit of sun--even though all he was was dark.

the same as his father--he obviously left his mark.

one I used to like--now with too much of a character arc.

How angsty is it that his favorite color was blue?

I drive past his house and get angry that these thoughts cannot be kept at bay.

I don’t assume anything will be alright,

And I know it doesn’t have to be.

But I still always think about you at night,

Lying awake and wondering if you think about me.

Dutifully,

Always,

Brenna
