Thoughts On Pain

If aliens heard the voices of men

Would they be appalled at how we languish?

Would they denounce us and all of our sin?

Or would they accept us in our anguish?

I have seldom suffered or perspired

Yet so many of the innocent do

Philosophers ask “Is this pain required?”

Religions say it’s just what we accrue

I say it is the wrong question to ask

I ask “If in distress, what can you possibly try?”

Perhaps, you can only take off your mask

So someone can wipe your tears when you cry

Hold on to your hope and never despair

Every person should have someone who cares
