A thousand

One virus, causing a thousand deaths,
Breaking a thousand hearts,
Destroying a thousand dreams.

We can make it,
We can make it out of the Red Sea,
To the other side to claim our liberty,
Our democracy,
Our freedom to be,
Who we were born to be.
To be able to go outside,
Hang out with friends,
Touch people again,
Without feeling restrained
With anxious thoughts gnawing at your brain.

Liberty, Rule of Law, Democracy, Respect
Handed to us on a silver platter shed with blood, tears and sweat
Only to be broken into a million shards of regret
Of remorse, no know course
Of what we took for granted
And what is now being fore-fronted
As we brace ourselves for the monstrosity
Or the long-awaited glory
As we await news of what we will come to be.
