The Thread of Humanity
Discrimination, the parent to abounding offspring:
tragic events around the globe,
historical interruptions in the thread of humanity
to miniscule daily objections.
It files complaints and
yanks the forbidden “race card”
in the land of the free,
separates those vast fortunes
acquired and chanced upon
from the countless untouchables
without asylum into castes,
where the Taj Mahal resides,
remembers “the greatest hate crime of all”
when one charismatic man in the lead
allowed the ambition to bleed
into the cracks of his mind.
When opening one's eyes,
it's discovered in one's own home,
demonstrated in sighs, jokes, and judgments.
It's experienced everywhere, but what is it?
Discrimination is the pain you are enclosed with
when you are excluded for any reason,
within the reach of your control or out of it.
Judgments are undeniable;
always, they will be formed and processed.
But compassion is the ability
to control the spoken and acted criticisms
that affect our human inter-threading.
Notoriety is not an accomplishment.
