Three Years Ago

Three years ago I was your puppet

Attached to the strings you had through my knees,

A blindfold over my eyes and I believed all of your lies.

Three years ago you left me,

You threatened me,

You -

Abused me.

Three years later,

I am still afraid of you coming back to hurt me.

My knight in shining armor has yet to come,

I have my own suit of thick armor covering every inch of my body.

Beneath the silver walls I cast around my broken yet golden heart

There lies the princess who longs and day dreams of her prince.

Once she, meaning me, realizes that not every frog is meant to be a prince,

Not every prince will share true loves kiss,

And that sometimes princesses need to save theirselves,

I remain withheld.
