Threnody of Nemesis

What makes man if not for his mind?

What drives a man but his heart?

Why must he be driven to reach for the sky?

Nations and empires cut down

Tsars and kings

Shahs and emperors

engineers and poets all

diving forward, marching on

towards that inescapable dawn

ignoring Justice with her wings and whips

Oh! Ye, Nemesis queen of knives

Oh! Ye Nemsis fear of Gods

Oh daughter of the Dark and Night! Sister of the Fates!

When man would rise

It is you who cut him down!

The fear of Romans and Greeks!

You who rose in the north that fated 1917

You who came across the waves in '41

You charged the Turks at the gates of Vienna

You aimed the guns at Gallipoli

Even the queen could not avoid you,

Her impentrable walls burst through

Yet never shall we, foolish as we are,

Look to you in fear

When we set to Challenge the stars you struck us with your hand

And no you did not stop there

Yet neither did we

And now we look furhter into eternity

Out there and at home

We will push ourselves against you

Fulfill our collective dream

We will achieve our immortality!

Even if only in memory

Man's hubris knows no bounds and has caused so much pain

In our rush forward you have sent plagues

Cancers, cold wars, climates, and divisions

In a fateful bid

Even going and giving the mightiest of us your power

So that they may cut each other down

Yet they held their breath

Not just 45 years but even till this day

Man may yell and shout, beat his chest, but

Still We have grown

And one day we may even reach you!

For Man's Ambition knows no pain!

The chains, whips and knives have never put him down!

Just as we are the emperors, kings and slavers who you put down

So too are we the slaves, serfs, and revolutionaries

The blades that you so wield

And now the swords are held aloft to the sky

Man will cut you down!

For if we will fall it will be on our own

And if we should rebuild Babel it will be alone

No fate shall bind us

No judgements but our own!

and if this damns us for eternity we may see you there

You who know not good nor evil

You who mercilessly wields her blade

We have reached our hands to skies

So why do I now cry?

My tear's not enough to put out the flames of our glory

Of the dreams we have burnt to ash

Oh wicked Darkness, oh cursed light!

Will we not ever be rid of you

Are you not dead?

Oh Goddess had we not killed you?

Standing atop the world

What is this sharp pain I now feel?
