Thrice the Amusement

Have kids, they said.

It’ll be great, they said.

And then Mneme erased his memory,

And Melete stole my energy,

And Aoide became plenipotentiary.

I became sedentary.

I thought Mneme was right on track,

Her eidetic memory cultivated a literature maniac,

But something about Hawthorne

Left her conflicted and torn,

Leading her to scorn.

New again she’d born.

Melete struggled vertically.

Her appetite concerned me,

But something about meditating,

Somehow it was penetrating,

Stealing mine she grew exponentially.

I’m deteriorating.

Polically, Aoide is advanced.

Teachers observed her, entranced.

Growing past her peers, she took on President.

Policies bent,

She made her assent.

It was truly an event.

You see, I say,

They’re exhausting, I say.

So please stop their glorification

I’m stuck, damnation,

And I need a vacation.
