The Thrill

All you get is 6 minutes to make something happen You get no breaks; there are no subs or timeouts Every day you train and train When you want to stop, you don’t, you can’t, not in this sport Victory happens when ten thousand hours of training meets one moment of opportunity. Hundreds of kids all with same dream to win, at State Title Few will have a chance at it, fewer will win it But everyone gets something out of it Kids get in shape and they lose weight Some learn self-control and discipline Some have wrestled without great skill - none have wrestled without pride It’s not easy nor for the faint of heart Not everyone has what it takes It changes people, it makes them better people Those who endure the pain and the pressure will also walk off the matt victorious No matter the score Wrestling is a staple in life - not just a sport, but a way of looking at everything in a different way, a push through each drop of sweat, every black eye, any puddle of blood and all of the hard breathing at the end of practice, all effectively bandaged by the hand-raise at the end of the tunnel
