Through the Carnival Door
The screams are loud,
and getting louder.
The scent burns your nose,
and getting stronger.
The door begins to open,
and a smile slips across his face.
“Shh, shh,
follow me.”
Through the door
and around the corner,
I follow this man
Whom I don't desire.
Windows pinned up
with tacks and tape,
they hold no comfort
as he leads me forward.
Squeak, squeak,
his shoes do the talking.
Creak, creak,
the doors do the silencing.
Finally he stops,
in the middle of the room
that is bare and blank.
When did we get here?
Time is passing quickly,
but neither of us move.
Shattered in silence,
my pants begin to ring.
“Won't you be a dear,”
he raised his bulky hand,
“And tell them
I'm not here?”
Confused as ever,
I remove a device from my jeans.
“He's not here,”
Is my only reply.
Before I know it,
He's already gone.
Before a blink,
without a hint.
I follow his trail,
and a door slams closed.
I spin around,
and hit a wall.
The screams are loud,
and getting softer.
The scent is gone,
and will never return.
But I think
that
Im still trapped
here?
