Through that glass

Through That Glass

Melissa Patino

Meandering that dark, rough path

With a mazy motion.

The perfect life I could’ve had

If that iced liquid never existed.

I long to sit him down

And truly talk to him

Daughter to father.

I want to make him see that

Every drink he takes

Adds an inch to the puddle of tears that divides us.

He’s in my life

But he isn’t there when I need him

I know that person,

But he acts like a stranger.

The amber bubbles rise up as he sinks down.

How did you get lost in a bottle?

When I look through that glass

I see me …

I see you …

I want to be the light

That leads you out of the darkness.

How did you get lost in a bottle

And expect me to find you?
