Through It All
Because I love you, I put up with you everyday.
Despite the flaws and imperfections I think push everyone away.
The truth of the matter is I am loyal.
No doubt, no tribulation, no turmoil;
Would cause me to let go.
Even though I haven’t always treated you the best, you’re all I know.
Comfort, sacrifice, and strength prevail.
You have always supplied those without fail.
I defaced you; I threatened you without success,
For nothing I could do would make you love me less.
You are my body, my shell, my home.
Without you I am just a soul left to roam.
I suspended myself from you, pretended you were not there
I tried to believe I was alone floating through the air.
Hardened by your unconditional devotion;
I criticized your every motion.
Never adequate; never meeting my outlandish expectations.
I scorned you without any limitations,
But yet you held onto my existence,
Knowing that together we would be able to go the distance.
I regret looking down upon this home of mine,
Because in reality… it has always been more than divine.
I NOW pledge to love you as passionately as you love me.
No more thinking about “I” only “we”.
I will do all of this everyday to prove;
How much I truly love you.
