Throw the Cup in the Trash
She's no longer here, not a part of this world,
Last year, God, you took the life of a helpless girl.
One full of nothing but love, she was heaven sent;
You took a daughter, a sister, and one special friend.
They say there's a reason for everything that you've done
So tell me why you chose her to be the taken one?
A life unlived with limitless potential
The light in her was so strong, so exponential.
Her story is told, she is one of the millions
Of those that fight for their lives with endless resilience.
So she smiled with strength through the needles and fright
Leukemia at fourteen, she began her life fight.
Always stronger than the loved ones surrounding the bed frame,
Worry and wishing we could take away the pain.
She lost her life only at eighteen years old,
Leaving something to learn for each still-living soul.
During her fight, all she wanted was a day with her friends,
A day at the beach, a fun-filled weekend.
To lay in the sand, or to walk in the park,
To play a soccer game to finish from start.
Now I look at my friends and sadly I see,
We can be everything Ann couldn't be.
Our chance is still here with limitless potential
Our problems, our worries, so inconsequential.
But with all of this freedom, we don't realize or think
And when we hang out, all we do is we drink.
I think of this girl who's chance now is gone,
While we choose to be 'gone' without thinking we're wrong.
I've got all the years, all the valuable time,
But this time can end in the blink of an eye.
So why waste my time tippin' Red Solo Cups?
"'Cause it's fun", when it's gone, fill it right on back up.
I promised Ann I'd live for her, twice as much life
Embedded in my heart her forever bright light.
I'll cry twice as many tears, giggle double the laughs.
Love strong, and live long; Throw the cup in the trash.
