Tick, Tick
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
The same sound echoes through the halls, off the walls, back to the same spot.
There is no time; time falls slower than you do.
Down, down, down, she falls, falls through into the next world.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
The fall, it comes hard and fast.
All around is glass, echoing your image back to you.
Who are you? And who are you? Very clever indeed, she decreed.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
Sugary sweet, the cake awaits your touch, your taste.
‘Eat Me!’ it cries and she nods with a bite and a lick.
Poison, after all, is certain to disagree with you sooner or later.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
In the court of the Red Queen lies a parade of masks.
Despite the colors, there is a darkness to accompany a disagreeable task.
To kill the Jabberwock is your mission. Your audition to stay alive.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
The time is now, dear one, to flee.
No one can win against the Queen.
To lose, will cost your head.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
With a crash through the gardens and her cry of rage, you are free.
What is free? Free to live? Free to die? Free to be.
You spy a glass and you crawl over and gaze in.
The Queen laughs back, and the girl who ate the cake waves.
Underneath, you stand, waiting, a part of all three.
Around you is home, you are free of the maze.
And yet, the clock sticks at the second, reminding you of the place that was.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
