Tick Tock

Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Where are you Daddy?
I have been waiting for you for hours.

Tick tock
I know your car will pull up soon.
It is your weekend Daddy,
The weekend that I look forward to.

Tick tock
I have been standing on this dreaded balcony for hours

Peering over the railing for just a glimpse of you

Tick tock
Mommy said it is time to come in,
Daddy has not shown again

Tick tock
I have faith in you this weekend

it is the 3rd weekend you've been late to

Tick tock
Darkness closes in around
Tears are now flowing down

Tick tock
Mama carries me in
My faith in your arrival has met an end

Tick tock
Six months go by and I haven't seen you
Mama, where has daddy gone does he still love me?

Mama why has he not returned my calls?
Mama is Daddy coming this time?
Mama?
Mama?
Mama?
Mama doesn't know baby. But mama does know he still loves you.

Tick tock
That girl on the balcony that waited for hours is now in middle school.
Mama is Colin coming to my game?
See I no longer think of you as Daddy that term became foreign to me

The night you abandoned me
You packed up and left for Florida
So far away from me

Tick tock
Mama have you heard from Colin, he is not answering me?
Colin all I ever wanted was for you to be proud of me.
Instead every night I laid in bed and wondered
Maybe if I was skinny
Maybe if I was pretty
Maybe if I wasn't so independent
Maybe if I wasn't born to two teenagers having a one night stand
He would've stayed with me
He wouldn't be ashamed of me

Tick tock
I'm about to graduate eighth grade
Mama do you think Colin will come this time?
Mama do you think he will be proud of me now?
You showed up that graduation night
All I could think is he's proud of me.

But after you watch me receive multiple awards including salutatorian
All you said was why aren't you valedictorian?

Tick tock
I am in high school now and it's not what I planned.
I wish I could come home and tell you my boy problems.
Instead I come home and call a guy friend
He tells me sweet heart
You need a father figure

Tick tock
I am done waiting for you
The clock has stopped
Colin you are no longer my dad

You are just a boy and a boy can't raise a child. So my dad Lee stepped in.
