Tightrope

Somewhere between tomorrow and the past, Hoping we will make something that lasts. But until then I'll walk this thin tightrope, Conflicted by the fear and constant hope. Still wondering what you think about me, How different from what it used to be. Our experiences shaped how we grew, But you're still the best thing I ever knew. All too quickly it ended, no goodbye, To say you weren't missed would be a lie. It seems as if I'm once there and then gone, Like a sudden dusk and then no dawn. You were the one I knew I could trust, Mending a soul long covered in dust. Never so blessed to have you in my life, Full of love, without anger, without strife. Oh, how I used to dream of yesterday, Holding you close, a life without dismay. Now there's a chance to look to tomorrow, A chance to reunite, end the sorrow. But for now, I'll be whatever you need, I'll follow this road, wherever it leads. You still deserve the absolute best, Just never settle like all of the rest. If there's anything I hope you still know, It's that I can't truly just let you go. Rushing you is the one thing I won't do. All I know is I'm always missing you.
