Time Flies
Spinning, spinning. Around the world goes.
The hustle and the bustle of humanity shows
The universe moving so fast, it won’t stop.
If only the spinning of the world could stop.
A first kiss, anticipated for many teenage years
That is over in just simply the mere
Second or two. The sparks are now off.
If only the spinning of the world could stop.
My heart, feeling as if broken in two.
Why did I ever give it to you?
Crying in bed, my stomach has dropped.
Why has the spinning of the world stopped?
My baby, born in the blink of an eye.
What can one do to make it not cry?
The stress of daily life piling on top,
If only the spinning of the world could stop.
Three years, why do they grow up so fast?
I would do anything to make this moment last
A lifetime, but it can’t. Movement of life just won’t stop.
If only the spinning of the world would stop.
Packing for school, I cry in her dorm
I feel like she’s not my baby anymore.
I asked for more time. It was a failed op
because the spinning of the world won’t stop.
Holding my breath, I am trying not to drown.
“It’s cancer”, the doctor responds with a frown.
Life expectancy is about to be cropped.
I scream for the spinning of the world to be stopped!
Chemotherapy all the time
Is not working. Don’t try to lie.
Unable to hold my breath, I sink
Time’s approaching, “Any day now” I think
My daughter...I’m standing over her grave
With the grief that has hit me like a colossal wave.
The time went by so fast, it didn’t stop.
Why didn’t the world stop?
Time is an inevitable juggernaut
Unable to be stopped, but many times forgot.
We never really notice how fast it will hop
Out of our lives until we plead for the spinning to stop.
If I could change anything, even just for a day
I would want to possibly find a way
To keep the length of our days from dropping
And maybe then we’ll feel as if the spinning is stopping.
