Time Flies

I miss the way my tiny hands melted perfectly into hers

I miss the feeling of invincibility when I was on top of her shoulders,

the careless laughter and giggles that filled the seemingly endless halls of my elementary school

I felt so cool, like her personal jewel

It seems like only days have passed and now I'm learning to tie my own shoes, prepare my own food, and navigate myself to school

It was as if in a blink of an eye, I was left to lead my own life

Gone were the imaginative bedtime stories followed by gentle snores

Gone were the magical "boo boo healing" kisses for all of my embarrassing kickball misses

Gone was my mirage of a wall, as I watched it crumble all around me

I feel her begin to slowly drift away, but I'm not ready

Tough love she calls it, but I am weak

I'm expected to conquer this impossible mountain called "life", but I'm afraid I'll only get pushed off of it once I've reached its peak

I'm expected to earn a degree, but I don't know how far it will take me

She tells me it is time for me to spread my wings and fly

To leave my homey nest and learn to read between the lines

And it was at this moment I knew, there would be no time for sad goodbyes,

Because I now became the keyholder to opening up a new chapter in my life
