Times Like These
It is in times like these,
Where we begin to realize how
Attached
We are.
To people.
To our phones.
To those Target trips.
To people:
When was the last time
You saw your best friend
Who always makes you laugh?
When was the last time
You hated someone
Because they looked better than you?
When was the last time
You loved someone
Because when they walked into the room,
Everybody else disappeared?
These relationships,
Whether they’re made of
Love or hate,
Are not lost.
It is in times like these,
Where these relationships
Should be remembered.
To our phones:
Do you know how many germs
Live your phone?
Do you know how many hours
You spend on your phone?
Do you know how many days
You would be able to go
Without it?
This bond,
Whether it’s
Healthy or unhealthy,
Is brought to light.
It is in times like these,
Where this bond with our phones
Becomes a bigger issue.
To those Target trips:
How is it possible that we
Are no longer able
To spend countless hours in Target
Without getting one single side eye,
One awkward shuffle
To the opposite side of the aisle?
How is it possible that we
Can’t get a little
Pre-shopping fuel
At Starbucks?
How is it possible that we
Can no longer test
The makeup products
Even though we know
Exactly what we went looking for?
These trips,
Whether they’re
Deliberate or aimless,
Will be back.
It is in times like these,
Where the Target trips
Are simply put on hold.
We live for
Our people,
Our phones,
Our Target trips.
But what we must live for now is
Each other.
Regardless of whether or not they’re
Our people,
In our phone’s contact book,
Or someone we run into in our trips to Target.
It is in times like these,
Where we should begin to realize how
Attached
We must be
To each other.
