I am from Xbox 360,

From playing with my dad and brother.

I am from rice and beans every Sunday,

From my grandmother who cooks her beans with bacon.

I am from the bonzai tree, the plant

My mom got for her birthday.

I am from the breast cancer walk every October,

From walking with my aunt and uncle, Tania and McCharles

From “Frère Jacques” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider”

I am from the “highly educated” and the “tallest height”.

I am from the Almighty Father, the Messiah, the last

Sacrificial lamb.

I’m from St. Mary’s hospital and Port au Prince, Haiti

From fried plantain and mashed corn.

From the surgery my mom had when she had breast cancer,

The horrible disease that my mom survived.

From the 6 inch burn my father received from a stove,

Leaving him with a lifetime scar.

I am from the photo albums on the bookshelves

And movie boxes under them.

I am from all these great moments in time.
