today

it was today i realised people fail to reciprocate,

i flood you with love and i receive a drought.

i suppose it’s my own fault for leaving the tap running,

but i don’t know how to turn it off.

i wish i could nourish myself and water the seeds growing within me,

rather than depriving them to flourish yours.

i long for the day these buds burst and vibrant petals of appreciation spray out,

but until then,

the thorns twist and turn draining all colour from within.
