Today
Today is my Birthday – but that doesn’t matter
Time worthy of only one day would cause my legs to break
And grass to grow over the mausoleum.
I am the image you never frame – but keep anyway,
With one too many edges,
A form of inevitable perplexity
I say “genesis comes during dusk”
And endure the breeze one moment too long.
They tell me to exclaim “yes” to the heavens
But I say “no” and feel unrestricted.
From Weaver to Takei I am lost in unusual dreams,
I look at my pictures and feel more lost than ever
Of white carnations dyed blue and emotionless eyes
I hear gasping worse than death –
The tragedy is in the attempt to stay past your due,
Not the conclusion.
I try to attempt because I cannot choose
86,400 seconds to remain standing,
I tumble and weep and find solace in antithesis,
Because the tights will always have runs in them
Yet, I remain.
Lost is never alone and singular is just a perspective,
The carnation is me.
I cannot be yours – but I cannot belong to me either –
I say “attainment comes during daybreak”
And wait to see your face.
