Together

Why do we hate? Is there a real reason? Everyone’s the same, it’s not hard to see son. Yet we call each other out, for the pettiest things, try to one up each other, and dominate the scene. But what kind of good could so much hate bring, words sting, in peoples ears they ring. You say you hate him because he’s black, hate her ‘cause she’s fat, and hate your own next-door neighbor cause of the words on his cap. Hate him cause he’s gay; you hate her cause she has a different skin color, okay. So quick to alienate, even quicker to discriminate, why beat each other down, when we’re eating off the same plate? Many wars have been started, many martyrs martyred what will it take for the world to comprehend, what is means to be friends and accept others’ trends, and that others may have different means to an end. What will it take to realize that people live their lives not only to survive, but to be happy and thrive. We can all come together, or live shallowly apart and shoot intolerance back and forth like a double-edged dart. We need to join forces, as we move along our courses, there’s a wall of separation, bigger than one nation, we should learn to explore, so we can learn more, and more and more, ‘cause if we close our minds, we are mentally blind and won’t know what we could find. Everyone is so quick to shut each other out, but if we let each other in, the walls begin to thin, we must expand our clique and not let others dic—tate the way we live our lives and start to comprise a social network that strives to put aside differences and welcome the nuances we accrue over time. But it’s not enough to put on a front, pretend to care and be something you’re not. Trust these words, I can call your bluff, when you want people to believe your accepting and stuff. It has to come from within, the true meaning of love for your fellow human beings, ‘cause above all else, we all need help, ‘cause to get where we’re going, take’s more than yourself. So rid mind of your hypocritical ways and lose yourself in my metaphorical daze. See the person in the distance alone and confused, I hope you realize that one day that might be you. As you hear these rhymes I hope you take the time, to gain insight, walk in another’s shoes, ‘cause in the end it’s up to you, you have to choose to make a difference in someone else’s life, bring them out of strife, help them see the light. It all comes with acceptance, that’s the message I preach, it’s going to take time, it’s not a walk on the beach. With all of the hate spread around the world, the energy could be harnessed, swirled and twirled and thrown right back out like a tornado of diversity, if you give it a try I swear you will see that the old saying goes “if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em” but this time it’s different because it’s not about negativity, but creating a new age of social in-ter-activity. What a dream it would be to see all of the nations band together in boundless celebrations, and colorful recreations, because the life we have been given is too short to live in a hateful mind state. This isn’t to say be a brainwashed robot, or something you’re not, it’s not about who’s right or wrong but to bring awareness to the minds of the careless. It’s not about oppression but instead recognition, just listen to the words of Aretha Franklin, it goes r-e-s-p-e-c-t and what it means for you and me is to grasp that others see differently but most importantly, that you are no different than we. Don’t twist my words, but repeat what you’ve heard. As I beg and I plead, I get on my knees and ask that you try for me, open your heart your mind, your eyes, create new ties and forget the bi-ases that you previously shared, leave your mark on the world as one who cared.
