Together Holding Hands

Separate but equal Still not the same. We were not one people We shared a common name We shared a common skin color We shared a common plight We shared a common enemy We shared a common fight. We fought the hate dividing Our children and our dreams We marched and sang together Saying “We will overcome.” All the ones who thought We'd never overcome They didn't understand We'd join and stand as one. They thought they could stop Us believing But they didn't understand the power of a people Standing up together Together holding hands.
