To Tomorrow
Today I made a promise to someone special
They are my everything, my love, my compassion, and my hope
Today I made a promise.
I made a promise to keep yesterday’s promise.
Yesterday I made a promise to somebody else
They are my strength, my laughter and my joy.
Tomorrow I will make another promise,
A promise to keep all others.
I don’t know if I can keep the promise
Weighing me down like Atlas carrying the world
Chipping at me each and every day
Non stopping
Never ending, always a little harder each day.
Today I will make a promise.
Just like every other promise, with Death lurking over my shoulder.
Today I made a promise to myself.
Telling him everything will be alright, everything will be fine, everything will be what you dream.
I told him again and again that tomorrow will be better.
Each day is a struggle though
Breaking point seeming so close.
Tick tock tick tock
When will it end?
I can’t keep today’s promise.
I will try again tomorrow.
A promise I will always keep trying, a promise to tomorrow.
