"Tomorrow."

The pages of the book turn

The keys on the computer click

It's midnight

The assignment is due

Frustration consumes her

Procrastination wins again

"Tomorrow." She thinks

Tomorrow she will do better

Hers eyes shut and her mind wanders

She thinks back to that hot summer afternoon

It’s a Friday

She puts her scrubs on

She drives to the hospital

She rooms patients

It’s all routine

She enters a room

The physician at her side

The patient is seated

With no family in sight

As tears filled her eyes and the fear cracked her voice

She thinks back to the air in the room

“Tomorrow.” She thinks

Tomorrow she will do better

Tomorrow she will finish in time

Every morning she wakes up

Happy and healthy

Ready to change someone else's mind

To inspire others to do better

To inspire others to care

To make a difference in medicine

While she is still here
