Tonight
A thousand soldiers prepared for duty,
With their weapons loaded,
They face the day.
At night, they listen to the faint sounds of choppers overhead,
And pray that they won't be needed for combat,
Tonight.
Pictures of loved ones live under their pillows,
They no longer remember what it's like to be home,
They've been gone too long.
Bullets soar through the air,
Blood stains surround them,
They pray it's not one of their men,
Tonight.
Night comes again,
Everything becomes still,
Except their minds.
Memories replay over,
Time they'll never get back,
They pray their families won't forget them,
Tonight.
Tears roll down their faces,
They pray that they'll go home someday,
Until then they'll keep living,
Keep fighting,
Tonight.
