Too Old for 14
They all think I am older than I am
Wiser than my peers
They don't see my childish tears
Everyone my age is free to make mistakes and learn
Have I grown too fast?
If we all have to grow, I guess it's my turn
Like an old ship with a new mast
I am afraid my childhood passed me
A mother at fourteen
Immature for twenty five
Wise for fourteen
Misunderstood when I strive
Not heard just seen
I wanted to be young, I think
Ask me to dance
Ask if you can get me a drink
Tell me to give them a chance
I don't want to talk about guys
Or who’s your crush
But that means I am old in their eyes
It gets to be too much
They always act disappointed
When business doesn’t thrive
Even with all this responsibility I’ve been appointed
Acceptance is my drive
I wear too much makeup
My legs are too long
I want to give up
But for my siblings I have to be strong
I cant cry
For their sake
I have to try
To hide
Even if the smile is fake
I stepped in where I was needed
It changed me more than I can explain
My childhood like a garden getting weeded
But there is still pain
I am moving on but wanting to go back
Planning my future
My child heart fading to black
But knowing deep down I am immature
I want to be innocent
Wishing I never knew what they meant
My resume is longer than anyone else’s my age
With experience most adults don't have
I have to be older for them to engage
They are always surprised when I say fourteen
The conversation always changes
The question always comes
“How are you a teen?”
Like a old picture in a new frame
The cracks cant be seen
I have no one to blame
I’m too old for fourteen
