Too Wide-Eyed to Wake
The walker on a dusty road,
the waker of a love he sowed
kept hand to heart with silent voice.
“O Sleeper in the canopy,
what’s to become of thou and me
when I am forced to face my choice?
There, past the gate of Neverland
a war was fought in sinking sand
‘twixt Prince and Pauper, deeds to rue.
“O Sleeper in the canopy,
how can you watch, and yet not see?
The answer came most hard, but true.
The castle taken, bridges burnt,
a new king ruled, a lesson learnt,
yet in the shadows still a voice-
“I’ve fought too hard to steal a kiss
and yet I leave with this last wish:
O Sleeper please, hate not my choice.”
These vines I wrap around my heart
They’re not here to keep us apart.
